The study looks at how common oral human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and lesions are in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). **HPV** is a virus that can cause infections in the mouth, and **HIV** is a virus that attacks the immune system. The study will involve 300 people who get care at the Vivent Clinic, which helps people with HIV. Researchers will look at things like age, race, smoking, and drinking habits to see if these affect the chances of having an HPV infection or lesions in the mouth.
Participants must have proof of an HIV test, agree to give a mouth sample, have an oral exam, and have visited the Denver clinic at least twice. People with certain health issues or a low CD4 count, which measures immune system strength, can’t join. The study will help find ways to better screen and treat oral HPV infections in people with HIV.
