This study focuses on helping teens in special schools who might feel very sad or think about hurting themselves. Sadness, also called depression, is common and can lead to serious problems like suicide. In the Netherlands, 7% of teens go to special schools and might need extra help. This study uses a program called CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to help these students feel better and prevent depression from getting worse.
First, students will be checked for signs of sadness or thinking about self-harm. If students have these feelings, they and their parents will get special help. Some students will join a group program at school, while others will be watched to see how they are doing.
- The study lasts for the school year, focusing on students in 2nd or 3rd grade or aged 14 or 15.
- Students need their parents' permission to join.
- There is no cost to join, and the program aims to keep students safe and healthy.
Teachers will also learn how to spot and help students who are sad or in danger, making schools safer for everyone.
