This study looks at how well Dexmedetomidine (DEX) works for calming kids before they have an MRI scan. An MRI is a special picture of the brain taken inside a big machine. Kids need to stay very still, which can be hard, especially for those under 5 or with autism or other challenges. Normally, doctors use a strong sleep medicine called propofol, but it can be uncomfortable because it requires a tube to help with breathing. DEX is a gentler medicine given through the nose and has been shown to work well without the need for tubes. However, we don’t know if it works better or worse for different groups of kids, such as those with autism or epilepsy.
