The Mindful Caregiver Project is a study for family caregivers of people with dementia. The study checks if an 8-week mindfulness program can help reduce stress and improve attention and mood. Mindfulness is a way to focus on the present and calm the mind. 232 caregivers aged 50 and older will be split into three groups: mindfulness meditation (MM), learning about caregiving (psychoeducation, PSY), or taking a break from caregiving (caregiver respite, CR). Participants will have three testing sessions: one before starting, one after 8 weeks, and one a year later.
To join, you must be 50 years or older, a primary family caregiver, and speak English. You cannot join if you already practice mindfulness, have certain mental health disorders, can't attend all sessions, or lack computer and internet access.
