**Neurofeedback-Assisted Mindfulness Techniques to Reduce Symptoms of Mental Distress**
*Neurofeedback* is a type of training that helps people learn to control their brain activity. In this study, researchers will combine *neurofeedback* with meditation to see if it helps reduce stress. Participants will attend 10 training sessions, each lasting about 2 hours, over 5 weeks. You'll sit in a dimly lit room, focus on your body, and hear sounds that help guide your brain into a calm state. These sounds will be based on your brain activity.
**Key Points:**
- **Duration:** The study lasts for 5 weeks, with sessions held twice a week.
- **Activities:** You'll complete mood assessments, meditation, and stress tests using cold water.
- **Outcome:** The study will measure your mental health through questionnaires and check your stress levels using saliva samples and heart recordings.
To be part of the study, you must be able to speak Dutch, have mild to severe stress, and have no recent history of meditation practice or use of certain medications. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group to see how effective the training is in reducing stress.
