Mechanisms of Behavioral Activation (BA) Study Summary This study explores how a type of therapy called Behavioral Activation (BA) affects the brains of teenagers with depression. BA is a treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), which is a condition causing sadness and low motivation. To do this, researchers will use a special brain scan called functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). They want to see how the BA therapy changes brain activity related to avoiding things due to fear or lack of motivation. Key Points:
  • The study involves 136 participants, ages 15-17, including both healthy controls and teens seeking treatment for depression.
  • Participants will have several fMRI sessions throughout the study. These sessions will happen at the beginning, middle, and end of the therapy to track changes.
  • To join, teens must not be on certain medications, must have access to a smartphone or computer, and should not be undergoing other therapies. Healthy controls must not have depression.
Note: Teens with certain conditions or on specific medications may not be eligible to participate.
