This study explores how a diet high in fiber from legumes, like beans, might help reduce obesity and the risk of colon cancer. Obesity is when someone is very overweight, and colon cancer affects the large intestine. The study particularly looks at people who are overweight and have had colon polyps, which are small growths that can turn cancerous. The researchers believe that fiber can help with weight loss and may lower cancer risk by improving gut health and decreasing inflammation (swelling and irritation). Participants will eat meals provided by the study for the first six months and continue on their own for another six months.
- The study lasts 12 months with meals provided for the first 6 months.
- Participants must be 40-75 years old, overweight, and have a history of colon polyps.
- The study is not for people with serious medical conditions or recent smokers.
