Study Purpose: This study tests the safety and effectiveness of a medicine called dexpramipexole for people with severe asthma that is not well controlled. Asthma is a lung condition that makes it hard to breathe, and "eosinophilic" refers to a type of white blood cell that can make asthma worse.
Study Details: Participants will be randomly assigned to take either dexpramipexole or a placebo (a pill with no medicine) for one year. The study is double-blind, meaning neither participants nor doctors will know who is getting the real medicine. After the treatment period, there will be a follow-up for 4 weeks.
- 🕒 The study lasts for 56 weeks (52 weeks of treatment plus 4 weeks of follow-up).
- 💊 Participants will take either the study medicine or a placebo.
- ⚠️ Participants must have been diagnosed with asthma for at least a year and have a history of asthma attacks.
Participation: Open to males and females aged 12 and older, who have been on certain asthma medications for at least 12 months. Participants should not have had a severe asthma attack recently or other medical conditions that could affect the study. Women who can become pregnant must use birth control. Participants must be willing to follow all study instructions.
